This summer, my family and I traveled to California to visit our relatives. The big event for this trip was my cousin Eena’s wedding (we’ll save that for another post!). The days leading up to Eena and Chris‘ wedding were just as eventful as the big day itself. Family and friends were flying in from different places – Texas, The Philippines, Australia – and there were many dinners planned as well.
One pre-wedding event was a road trip to Yosemite National Park. Eena, her childhood friend Keisha, my sister Krystle and I woke up at 2 am to make the long way to the park. Our goal was to catch the sunrise behind Half Dome, and we were successful! Thank you Taylor Swift for keeping us awake on the road.
Eena drove through a series of winding roads and for the longest time we would only see the silhouettes of trees and mountains. When we got to one big curve we finally got a glimpse of Half Dome. Our excitement really picked up then!
We still had to hike a bit to get to a good viewpoint of Half Dome. There were several people there already, all quietly waiting for the sun to come up. I’ve never actually watched a sunrise before, but the experience is nothing short of magical.
After enjoying the sunrise, we made it back to the car and headed off to another part of the park. We stopped by the village area and grabbed breakfast (YUM!!!). We then set out on another trail, which took us to a waterfall and involved a lot of rock scrambling. We were definitely exhausted by the end of the day, but the exhaustion was worth it.
